NYC Fashion Night Out!

September 14, 2011

Fashion’s Night Out hit eighteen countries this September; we were lucky to have New York City as one of these selected cities. On this night every year, occurring just before New York City’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, attendees found parties, deals on merchandise, prizes, and celebrities, such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kimmora Lee Simmons, and the Kardashian sisters, endorsing their own products. With hundreds of stores participating in New York City alone, the one-night-only event promises to be the fashion event of the year.
As some may know, the well-known event made its first appearance in 2009, thanks to Vogue magazine’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and with help from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York. The idea was generated by Wintour to encourage shopping during the economic recession.  FNO debuted in eleven countries across the globe, and 700 stores in the United States participated. The event sparked such an interest and was so successful that the event became a global trend. The next year’s festivities, which included the largest public fashion show in history, was held in cities in Australia, Brazil, China, London, Paris, Berlin, Greece, India, Milan, Portugal, Russia, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, and Turkey, on top of its original locations in the United States.
The event  held in New York City on September 8,  has gained much popularity since its debut just 2 years ago, was expected to be even bigger with its added locations and events this year. This year’s FNO will be located in over 250 cities this year, including cities in Italy, Greece, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, and, of course, various cities in the United States. The 2011 event has also signed on over 200 online retailers to participate, extending the phenomenon to the World Wide Web.
Recently, Vogue released a statement about the upcoming Fashion’s Night Out that states: “While details on what to expect are still emerging, one thing is for sure: After putting together the largest public fashion show in New York City history last September, there is no telling what you can expect this year. We can promise, however, that across the globe, from Brooklyn to Berlin, it will be a night to remember—and all in support of all aspects of the fashion industry.” So what exactly is to come? The night will surely come with some surprises, however some details have been released. Internet sources have leaked information about Kate Walsh, star of ABC’s Private Practice, making an appearance to endorse her new perfume, Boyfriend, at Sephora. Solange Knowles and Ivanka Trump are said to be partying at Lord & Taylor, and Teresa Giudice, Real Housewife of New Jersey, will greet fans at the Macy’s on Staten Island!
This year’s Fashion Night Out is sure to be full of parties, prizes, and surprises and a great kick off to fashion week!
Did anyone attend FNO or any of this past weeks events?
