Have Your “Fake” Cake and Eat It, Too!

When it comes to wedding cakes, the options are overwhelming. Tall cakes, short cakes, cupcakes, tiered cakes, pink cakes, blue cakes, white cakes! But for the budget savvy bride, how can you have the fantasy wedding cake without breaking the bank ?

Thrifty brides-to-be are finding the solution lies in fake cakes! Artificial cakes made with soft foam or Styrofoam”dummy cakes” are iced over with either edible or inedible simulated icing and decorated as normal. Some are even equipped with hidden compartments to hide a slice of cake for the newly-weds’s cake cutting ceremony. They can be dressed up, dolled up and decorated just as pretty as a real cake without a hefty price tag.  Plus, your guests will be none the wiser it’s not the real deal.

Imitation cakes retail starting at $50 a tier and rent for as low as $200 for a basic cake which cuts reception costs considerably.

Usually wedding cakes are stale because they have to be prepared days in advance. They need time to bake and cool, to be iced and even the simplest designs take hours.  After sitting out for a few days, it’s not surprising the cake doesn’t taste it’s best. Instead, serve your guests delicious, fresh baked, soft, moist, butter creamed sheet cake. Fondant looks lovely, but nothing beats the taste of fresh cake and a blanket of velvety butter cream.
